FML Jukebox

Thank you for your interest in FML Jukebox.  Here is a (not so) brief list of features and instructions.

Options:
  • You can purchase a wireless remote for operation from a distance.
  • You can purchase a touch screen unit for your home or business.

    Features:
  • It can be paused just like modern jukeboxes in bars.
  • After 30 minutes of inactivity, it plays a free primer song to get customers' attention.
  • Acts just like a standard jukebox.  It plays the songs you pick.
  • You can search for songs by song name, band name, city, state, style, and influences, or list all of the songs.
  • It's cheaper than a traditional jukebox.
  • It's full of ONLY independent and local artists.  You get to hear underground and "up and coming" artists.
  • The customer has the choice to filter "objectionable" songs out of the selection.
  • The artists get paid per song, just like big name bands.
  • The artists get nation-wide exposure.
  • Songs are continuously added.  There's no limit on how many songs you can choose from.
  • Artists' upcoming events are shown along with the rest of their information during play.
  • Artists can indicate how and where to buy their CDs.
  • If you're a musician with original copyrighted material, you can submit songs to be played.(for now, we're not worried about the copyright)
  • Song dedications can be entered via a screen-based keyboard. (coming soon)

    Instructions:
  • Purchase as many or as few songs from us as you desire.  They are only $0.10 + 6% tax (40 songs is only $4.24).  This activates your account.
  • Start FML Jukebox by clicking on or entering http://www.FreeMusicianList.com/StartJukebox.hta and opening the startup program.
  • Enter your customer name and password.
  • Use your Remote control (or keyboard or coin mechanism) to enter the number of songs you desire to play.  You can simulate inserting coins one at a time by pressing Alt+1. Allow a couple of seconds for the "coin" to be processed before you "insert the next coin". Or, if you have a remote, press the 1 button to simulate entering a coin.   You'll briefly see a window appear in the upper left hand corner.  You're now ready to select songs.
  • Click the Select Songs to Play button to begin your search.  You can search with or without having entered a number of songs to play.
  • Enter into the form any search parameters you desire in order to streamline your search for the songs you want and click the Start Search button.
  • If you've entered a number of songs to play, then you can choose from the displayed list of artists and songs.
  • Enjoy your song selections and see information about the artists you selected.
  • Use your remote or keyboard to close FML Jukebox.  On the keyboard, press Alt+q.
  • Use your remote or keyboard to pause the jukebox.  On the keyboard, press Alt+p.

    Hints:
  • To eliminate the "click" sound upon display changes in Microsoft Internet Explorer, go to Start, Settings, Control Panel, Sounds and Multimedia, scroll down to the Windows Explorer section and remove the sound associated with Start Navigation.

    Troubleshooting:
Why doesn't the jukebox switch to the next band display every 20 seconds when no songs are being played?  Why doesn't it play songs?
  • For the screen to switch to the next artist or band's information, or to play selected songs, your browser needs to be set up to allow META REFRESH.
  • You need to have cookies enabled for the jukebox to recognize you.
  • You need to have java scripting enabled for the jukebox to work properly.  You can click here to see how to enable it.

    Public Use Features:
  • Being a public customer, and selling song plays, you can have your address listed so people will know where to go to hear new music.
  • When using FML Jukebox, a touch screen unit is available with various options (see below).
  • An optional coin mechanism allows unattended operation.
  • Without a coin mechanism, you can collect money for songs and use the remote to enter the number of songs purchased.
  • You can purchase advertising, displayed as a banner (up to 600 x 100 pixels) displayed above the artists' information, showing that you support local and independent music.
  • The banner is also displayed on the Free Musician List web site at no extra charge.
  • You can record "splash" ads to be played periodically for daily specials, etc.

    Private Use Features:
  • You also can purchase advertising, displayed as a banner (up to 600 x 100 pixels) displayed above the artists' information, showing that you support local and independent music.
  • The banner is also displayed on the Free Musician List web site at no extra charge.

    Requirements:
  • We recommend a Pentium 133 MHz processor or better.
  • We recommend Internet Explorer 6.0 or later.  It will NOT work with Internet Explorer 5.0.  Other browsers may give satisfactory results.
  • An Internet connection is required during play.  A 56k baud dialup connection will work, but song plays are drastically delayed.  We recommend a broadband connection.
  • A minimum of 800 x 600 pixel display resolution will work, but we highly recommend 1024 x 768 resolution or better (for aesthetic appeal).
  • Any PC speakers or headphones will work, but of course, the better the speakers, the better the experience.  For public customers, we expect you will want the same quality as you would demand from other jukeboxes.
  • A keyboard is not necessary, and may be undesirable in public installations.

Upload Songs to be Played in FML Jukebox:
  • If you don't already have a band listing, make a band listing and verify it.
  • Once you verify it, the page will have a link that says, "Find a song and upload it".
  • Click this link and enter the information required.
  • Songs greater than 4 Mb will not be uploaded.  Try using a lower sampling rate (96 kbps or 64 kbps) to reduce the size of your song file.  .wma files are smaller than .mp3 files.
  • You MUST enter the password exactly as it was entered in the band listing.
  • Enter an accurate song length in minutes and seconds.
  • Please allow up to 24 hours for your song to be validated for the jukebox.  We can't be in the cockpit 24-7 without endangering countless lives, including our own.
